How do you do a old world texture on wall with drywall mud and a trowl? and do you have a picture?

No pictures and not a pro, but I tried to get that affect in a few rooms before, and what I remember most is that you go through alot of mud (joint compound). What I learned:

Start in a closet or inconspicuous area and develope your technique. I used a 12'; towel with about a 1'; bead of mud across the blade. The technique was random drags, some were perpendicular to eachother, others were like making a letter ';C'; motion. The inportant thing is use a good quality (low shrinkage) mud to avoid cracking when it dries.

It does not have to go on thick to get the affect, leave lots of bare wall, it will become more aparent when its sealed and painted. How do you do a old world texture on wall with drywall mud and a trowl? and do you have a picture?
